Procurement Participation

The department takes a lead role in choosing staffing firms

I see procurement getting more and more involved with staffing firm selection. What is your impression?

Dear Reader,

Our research shows that, indeed, corporate procurement departments are weighing in more when buyers choose staffing firms.

A survey in 2010 conducted by Staffing Industry Analysts found 69 percent of staffing buyers reported their procurement departments played a lead role in choosing staffing suppliers. That’s up from 36 percent who said the same in a similar survey in 2005.

Procurement’s participation in contingent workforce selection and management has grown steadily in the intervening years between 2005 and 2010 as well.

Partly this trend reflects the rise of VMS usage. VMS usage and procurement influence tend to go hand-in-hand.
