IT worker confidence slips; still 46% likely to seek new jobs

Overall confidence among U.S. technology workers fell in the first quarter, according to Randstad Technologies’ IT employee confidence index, which fell to a reading of 48.6 in the first quarter from 55.8 in the fourth quarter.

Only 24 percent of IT workers said there more jobs available in the first quarter compared to 29 percent who said the same in the fourth quarter. However, 46 percent of workers reported in the first quarter that they are still likely to seek a new job in the next year.

“Although we saw a fairly significant decline in the overall confidence levels among IT workers, we believe this decline to be an anomaly being driven by many macro-level economic conditions in the first quarter that have a trickle-down effect to the employee,” said Bob Dickey , executive vice president of technologies at Randstad U.S. “In fact, several reports and projections point to a very promising year for the industry, with substantial growth on the horizon.”

The index’s survey is part of a larger online survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Randstad Technologies that included 183 respondents employed in IT.
