Firm acquires ITstaffing.com domain

Domain names can be crucial for search engine optimization and attracting Web traffic. And last week The Computer Merchant Ltd., a Norwell, Mass.-based information technology staffing and solutions provider, announced it acquired the domain name ITstaffing.com.

The deal took place in March. The domain was structured as pay-per-click advertising with links related to IT staffing prior. The former owner received 30 cents for every click it received.

Nick Squires, IT manager, said the domain came up for sale and the company was able to acquire it with the aim of boosting search engine rankings. Domain names with exact key words of a search tends to come up higher in search engine rankings, Squires said.

After acquiring the domain, the firm then spent three months on development of a microsite that fed into the company’s main website. “That way it’s unique content on the Web page as opposed to a mirrored site, and that increases your rankings,” Squires said.

Three months later, he said the domain is getting the results they were looking for, Squires said.
