US healthcare workers more confident in Q1, Randstad says

Healthcare workers’ confidence level rose in the first quarter, according to the Randstad U.S. Healthcare Employee Confidence Index. A majority of healthcare workers are confident they won’t lose their jobs in the next 12 months, according to the survey the index is based on. In addition, healthcare workers’ view of job availability improved.

The Randstad index rose to a reading of 58.0 in the first quarter, up from 55.1 in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The survey for the index found 48 percent of healthcare workers believe fewer jobs are available in the first quarter, that’s an improvement from the fourth-quarter survey when 56 percent said there were fewer jobs.

In addition, 72 percent of healthcare workers said in the first-quarter survey they are confident they will not lose their jobs in the next 12 months. That’s down from 75 percent in the fourth-quarter survey but still high.

However, 33 percent of healthcare workers said in the first-quarter survey they are likely to look for a new job. That’s down from 46 percent in the fourth-quarter survey.

Still, 61 percent of healthcare workers said in the first quarter they are confident they could find a job in the next 12 months. The percent is unchanged from the fourth-quarter survey.

Randstad’s survey was conducted online by Harris Poll and included 158 adults employed in healthcare. They included physicians, nurses, healthcare administrators and other healthcare professionals.
