Felony charges for falsified time sheets

Two temporary workers at the New York State Department of Health were arrested for submitting falsified time sheets to their staffing firms, the New York State Inspector General’s office announced last week. The workers face felony charges of grand larceny and falsifying business records.

Alfred Cusick, 37, of Troy, N.Y., was arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $3,000 in wages between June 2012 and December 2012 when he filed time sheets with Kelly Services Inc. claiming he was at work when he was not, the Inspector General’s office reported.

Jeffrey Manor, 34, of Albany was arrested on suspicion of stealing more than $1,000 in wages between February 2013 and October 2013 when he filed time sheets with Accustaff, according to the Inspector General’s office.

Cusick and Manor provided clerical services to the New York State Department of Health.

While the cases both involve a government agency, the issue is one that should be of concern to any contingent workforce program. CW managers should ensure to have a process in place to ensure time sheets that are submitted match work actually performed. When staffing firms are involved, they should work together to ensure time sheet accuracy.
