Canadian Court Dismisses Union's Temp Worker Case

The Federal Court of Canada dismissed a challenge launched by two unions against a company that hired more than 200 temporary workers from China for its coal mine in northeastern B.C., CBC News reported.

The unions, the Construction and Specialized Workers Union and Local 115 of the International Union of Operating Engineers, filed suit when HD Mining was granted permits to bring 201 temporary foreign workers from China after it rejected multiple Canadian applicants whom the unions claimed had exemplary qualifications. The mine maintained that the workers were not skilled in the method of mining it planned to use, CBC News reported. Read more here
