Benchmarks: The Direct Hire Landscape

In 2011, we estimate that the U.S. direct hire market generated $5.1 billion. In direct hire service, the staffing supplier is engaged to fill a permanent role for a client, and only charges a fee if the position is filled. (This does not include retained search, when the staffing supplier is paid regardless of whether the position is filled). Commercial staffing (industrial and office/clerical), which is roughly half of temporary staffing revenue, makes up only 16 percent of the direct hire market. Information technology is the largest segment, making up a quarter of the direct hire market.
