Mass. Laws to Change Face of Staffing

One piece of legislation signed this week by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick promises to change the way business is done for staffing suppliers in the state. Beginning in January, suppliers will be required to provide day workers with job information such as rate of pay and job descriptions. The law also prohibits agencies from charging certain fees that could drive a worker’s pay below the minimum wage.

Another law signed this week bans mandatory overtime for nurses, a move that was heralded by nurses, but could drive the need for staffing services in this sector.
