“The recruitment industry is worth USD 400 billion dollars a year globally and annual pay packets can reach AUD 400,000-plus, so it’s of no surprise the sector attracts so-called cowboys. There are no qualifications needed to become a recruiter, often little to no training available and no regulations to manage conduct.
“The industry has to be better regulated and enforce penalties and liability for poor and unethical conduct to raise the standard of professionalism and ultimately reduce the negative impacts on job seekers,” said Shaun McCambridge, managing director of staffing company Stellar Recruitment. He addressed the poor reputation of the Australian staffing industry in the Daily Mercury.
