Nigeria – Navy warns of fake recruiters

11 March 2013

The Nigerian Navy has alerted the public over fake recruitment firms claiming to act on behalf of the navy to hire new recruits. It has warned members of the public to not fall victim to the scam after rogue recruiters tricked hopeful applicants into paying for fake jobs.

The navy said that such syndicates are specialised in extorting money from candidates who were hoping to get a job with the navy. It said that the navy was in charge of their own recruitment process, warning the public to remain cautious.

The Director of Navy Information, Commodore Kabir Aliyu, said he was sorry that some unscrupulous recruiters took advantage of the navy’s recruitment drive and tricked innocent Nigerians into paying for bogus vacancies. He said this practice was clearly illegal.

The information was disclosed in a statement on Sunday, signed by the Director of Information who reiterated that the navy had not commissioned any groups to carry out such recruitment activities.
