Japan – Unemployment holds steady in May

Figures released by the Japanese Statistics Bureau, reveal that unemployment fell in May by -6.1% compared with last year. This equates to 180,000 more people entering the workforce, and a current unemployment rate of 4.1%.

The ratio of jobs-to-applicant rose to 0.9, an increase of +0.01 hitting its highest level since June 2008. This equates to 90 new positions for every 100 job seekers. The number of new job offers rose 2.1%, an increase of +6.5% compared with last year, according to Reuters.
