India – Online hiring grows +7%

19 April 2013

Online hiring activity continued to rise in March, according to the latest employment index by Monster. This registered a +7% rise in hiring activity last month from the same time a year ago.

The index signals an improvement in business confidence by local companies, the survey found. This is despite month-on-month trends showing that online activity remained unchanged in March, following two months of decline.

22 of the 27 industry sectors monitored by Monster posted annual growth. Sectors showing the highest activity include shipping marine (+58%) and agro-based (+33%) industries. But import & export, oil/gas/petroleum, and power sectors all recorded double-digit declines (-10%) in the month.

Eight of 13 occupational groups monitored by the index also saw year-on-year growth. Customer service staff were most in demand during March, followed by arts and creative professionals. Across India, online recruitment improved across all regions, particularly in Jaipur (+42%) and Chandigarh (+38%).

“The Monster Employment Index India exhibits positive annual growth and the job opportunities have grown across all locations and most industry sectors covered by the Index,” said Sanjay Modi, managing director of Monster.com India/Middle-East/South East Asia.

Mr Modi said that “this growth is reflective of the confidence that Indian businesses have in the resiliency of Indian economy.”
