An amendment to the Fair Work Act on 1 July 2013 will raise the unfair dismissal high income threshold to AUD 129,300 (USD 119,654). Meaning a greater number of employees will have access to the available provisions.
The threshold is calculated using an employee’s wages, employer contributions, and the agreed value of non-monetary benefits, such as electronics and computer equipment. It does not take into consideration future earnings (such as bonuses), reimbursements, or compulsory superannuation contributions.
The compensation limit for unfair dismissal has also been increased, and capped at AUD 64,650 (USD 59,827).
