Using Research to Network

A friend of mine was telling me about Silicon Valley's index of economic health - the silly name index.  As silly names rise, the economic health of Silicon Valley improves - for those of you interested - silly names are up.

So this led me to look at a couple of venture capital firm portfolios.  Then I began thinking about social networking.  The problem with social networking when you are a working professional is - what do you talk about.  This led me to think about Staffing Industry Analysts' website; and how one might use its information to improve ones network.

I thought, what a great opportunity to strike up a conversation with someone about what is going on in the staffing world.  Go to the site, read a story or two, and then you have something to talk about.  You can call a colleague and talk about the research, you can draw your own conclusions or argue about ours.

Staffing Industry Analysts gives you some ability to communicate with others, through its blogs, such as this one, and the ability to comment and discuss stories, directly on the site.  Remember in order to participate, you need to be a corporate member, and then you need to sign up for blogging.

So give it a try - use information and improve your network!
