'Cloud' May Help After 37 Years

A man has gone 37 years without washing, according to a report in The Western Australian.

Needless to say, someone who has not bathed in 37 years might have limited on-site job opportunities, however technology has now opened up a new vista of employment available to anyone with talent, regardless of hygiene, appearance or personality quirks. IT workers were the first adopters, but others have signed up as well.

New firms are offering hiring in the “cloud.” Staffing buyers can log onto a Web portal and interview candidates, hire them as independent contractors for jobs and pay them online. The staffing buyers and workers never meet in person.

Two such firms, Elance Inc. and oDesk Corp., are currently being interviewed as part of an upcoming article in the August issue of SI Review magazine due out at the end of July. Staffing buyers can go to the sites not just for information technology specialists, but also for other types of talent including finance/accounting, marketing and more.

Such sites offer speed and flexibility for staffing buyers. Workers can remain at home, or wherever, when completing assignments — they might not even need to take a shower.

While not all jobs can be done from home, such firms may represent a new aspect of the staffing industry.
