Staffing Industry Analysts Announces Largest U.S. Staffing and Talent Engagement Firms

19th Annual Report Shows Revenue Growth from Nation’s Largest Firms

Mountain View, Calif. – July 9, 2014 - Staffing Industry Analysts, the global advisor on contingent work, today released the 2014 U.S. staffing and talent engagement market share report. In a repeat of last year, Allegis Group is the U.S. leader for the eighth year in a row with $8.7 billion in revenue and the top five firms remain unchanged from last year.

124 firms generated more than $100 million in U.S. staffing and talent engagement revenue in 2013. These firms generated a combined $74.1 billion in U.S. staffing and talent engagement revenue, which represents 54.5% of the total market.

The five largest U.S. staffing and talent engagement companies are:

Company 2013 U.S. Staffing Revenue ($millions) Market Share
Allegis Group 8,751 6.4%
Adecco 4,400 3.2%
Randstad Holding 4,366 3.2%
ManpowerGroup 3,830 2.8%
Kelly Services 3,830 2.5%

“The 124 firms that qualified for this year’s report represents the highest number since the boom year of 2000 when 128 firms met the threshold,” said Timothy Landhuis, senior research analyst for Staffing Industry Analysts. “Both the large number of firms, as well as the $74.1 billion of revenue, underscore the record level of demand for staffing and talent engagement services in the U.S. economy.”

Fifty-five percent of firms in the report noted a professional temporary staffing segment (IT, healthcare, engineering, etc.) as their largest segment. Thirty-two percent noted a commercial staffing segment (industrial, office/clerical). The remaining portion noted other services such as PEO and retained search.

Staffing Industry Analysts defines staffing revenue as revenue from providing temporary workers to business clients, as well as from the “place & search” services of direct hire/permanent placement, retained search and temp-to-hire conversion fee revenue. Talent engagement revenue is defined as Professional Employer Organization (PEO) net revenue, Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) revenue, payrolling net revenue, online staffing revenue and Managed Service Provider (MSP) fee revenue.
