IGate names new president and CEO

IGate Corp. (NASD: IGTE) named Ashok Vemuri as president and CEO effective Sept. 16. The appointment of Vemuri comes after the company terminated president and CEO Phaneesh Murthy in May citing an internal investigation over an employee claim of sexual harassment.

The company named Gerhard Watzinger as interim president and CEO during the search for a permanent CEO. Watzinger will remain with iGate in an advisory role temporarily to assist the Vemuri’s transition.

Vemuri comes from Infosys Ltd. (NYSE: INFY) where he most recently held the role of head of Americas and global head of manufacturing and engineering.

Vemuri has also served as chairman of Infosys China and was on the board of Infosys Public Services.

“Ashok brings a tremendous track record of success and accomplishments working across a range of businesses at Infosys, where he was directly responsible for driving growth for numerous multi-billion dollar businesses,” said iGate co-founder and co-Chair Sunil Wadhawani. “He is a talented and established leader, and the board has great confidence in his ability to drive iGate to continued growth in the future.”

Vemuri will also serve on iGate’s board.
