Staffing buyers reveal most difficult skills to recruit

Java and SAP ranked among the most hard-to-find skills, according to a new survey by Staffing Industry Analysts of 187 staffing buyers at companies with more than 1,000 employees.

The buyers were asked “within your primary skill purchase, what specific skills are you having the greatest challenge recruiting?” And the responses for the most hard-to-find skills among buyers who primarily purchased IT skills included: Java, SAP, mobile/app development, business intelligence, business analysts/experience, IT security, TIBCO, SharePoint, .NET, gaming, data integration, EHR, ERP, LISA QA, Guidewire, AS400, Python, Ruby on Rails, Groovy/Grails, Oracle, telecom, UI/UX.

Java skills appear, in particular, tougher to find this year than last when comparing the results of this year’s survey to a similar survey of buyers last year. SAP skills are tougher to find this year, but mobile/app development were not as difficult (although they still rank high among the hard-to-find skills). Oracle skills appeared not to be as difficult to find as in the previous year.

For staffing buyers that bought IT skills, 34 percent were in the finance/insurance industry; 25 percent were in tech/telecom and 9 percent were in mining; extraction and utilities.
