US has higher percentage of MSP spend on IT

Managed service providers in the U.S. handle a greater percentage of information technology spend than MSPs outside the U.S., according to the 2013 VMS and MSP Supplier Competitive Landscape report released by Staffing Industry Analysts.

It found that IT skills represented 37 percent of spend through MSPs in the U.S. The spend outside the U.S., in comparison, was 31 percent.

The study on which the report is based includes $88.3 billion in reported VMS spend and $62.5 billion in MSP spend. Overall, global spend through vendor management systems rose 21 percent in 2013 and MSP spend rose by 18 percent — among all skills, not just IT — according to the report. Because of the addition of a large MSP provider in this year’s report and other factors, total MSP market growth could vary by as much as 5 percentage points from the 18 percent growth reported.

Fieldglass ranked as the largest VMS in terms of spend under management, according to the report. Allegis Group Services ranked as the largest MSP.
