Demand high for healthcare and other pros, Beige Book says

Demand for skilled labor — including for healthcare workers — remains high in most areas from September through early October, according the U.S. Federal Reserve’s Beige Book report released Wednesday.

Staffing firms in the Cleveland Federal Reserve District cited strong demand for healthcare and manufacturing workers. Staffing firms in that district indicated job openings and placements increased slightly.

Outside of staffing, the Dallas Federal Reserve District reported demand for healthcare services fell, and the San Francisco Federal Reserve District reported weak demand for healthcare services.

Overall, the U.S. economy continued to expand at a modest to moderate pace from September through early October with payrolls growing in many districts. However, wage pressures were limited for workers of all types. And several districts reported employer caution over expanding payrolls because of uncertainty over the Affordable Care Act and fiscal policy.
