Supplemental into first year on one of largest healthcare RPO deals

Supplemental Health Care announced last week that it is well into its first year of what could be one of the largest recruitment process outsourcing deals of its type in the healthcare field.

The RPO deal with Parkland Health & Hospital System in Dallas has resulted in 600 positions being filled since January, and the company is on track to fill approximately 100 positions a month, Supplemental CEO Janet Elkin said Friday.

Parkland, a large public hospital, is a Level 1 Trauma provider and has the second-largest civilian burn center. It has 770 adult beds, 65 neonatal beds and more than 9,000 employees. It’s the primary teaching hospital for The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Elkin said Supplemental is handling hard-to-fill clinical and nonclinical positions such as nurses, emergency room personnel, healthcare information management workers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and others.

In terms of the number of critical positions being filled, it is one of the largest healthcare RPO deals in the country, Elkin said.

Supplemental provides and end-to-end solution that includes advertising and job fairs as well as confirming candidates' credentials, conducting background checks and more.

Elkin said there appears to be growing interest in RPO in the healthcare field, and it’s another way to add staff as the Affordable Care Act drives up demand for healthcare professionals while providing cost savings over traditional hiring methods.
