Seven healthcare staffing firms among fastest growing

Seven healthcare staffing providers were among the 92 total companies to make the 2013 List of Fastest-Growing U.S. Staffing Firms, published July 1 by Staffing Industry Analysts. To qualify for the list, companies had to show compound annual revenue growth of at least 15 percent between 2008 and 2012, starting from a base of at least $1 million.

Although this year’s list grew by 20 names, only one additional healthcare staffing company made the cut as compared to 2012. The allied segment is disproportionally represented for 2013, whereas each of the top three fastest growers in healthcare from the 2012 list indicated travel nursing as their largest business. Staffing Industry Analysts projects year-over-year growth of 10 percent for both of those markets in 2013. The healthcare sector has added more than 350,000 jobs over the last 12 months, up 2.1 percent year over year.

The fastest-growing among healthcare staffing firms, InGenesis grew at more than twice the pace of its next-closest peer, and is one of only two total staffing firms in the U.S. to more than double its size, on average, each year over the period measured. Though allied is its largest segment, the firm has substantial operations in the nursing and locum tenens markets as well.

Expanding from its home base in Detroit, A-Line Staffing Solutions opened new branch offices in Chicago, Dallas and Pittsburgh in 2012. The company recently celebrated the ninth anniversary of its founding by the father-and-son team of Ray and Dan Lichocki. In addition to its allied business, A-Line is active in the nursing segment and provides temporary staffing in the professional and IT markets.

AB Staffing Solutions specializes in travel assignments for nurses, physicians and allied health professionals, primarily to fill openings at federal facilities. Founded in 2002, the firm continues to grow at a strong pace, though it slid down the list to 44th place overall this year from 12th in 2012.
