New leader for South Carolina healthcare staffing firm

Continuum Medical Staffing, a division of Continuum Group since 2000, is now operating independently under new president and CEO John Johnson. Johnson acquired the division from Continuum Group last year, according to Continuum Medical Staffing Executive Vice President John Riener. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“We have now established its own company,” said Riener. “It is a relaunch. We are taking a company that was under $1 million in revenue and building from there.”

Johnson founded Lakeshore Staffing in Chicago in 1995, and served as president until 2003. Under his direction, the company grew $25 million in sales in three years and in 1998 was named Inc. 500 sixth-fastest growing company in the U.S., according to a press release. Johnson joined AAR Aircraft Sales & Leasing in 2004, serving as group vice president, corporate officer and vice president/corporate leadership and development.

CMS focuses primarily on allied health care, while Continuum Group targets pediatric nursing. The company’s original office is in Hilton Head, S.C., and the new operators last year opened an office in Charleston, S.C., which will serve as headquarters.

"We plan on expanding the Charleston office and building our company from there,” said Riener.
