Industrial Contingent Costs Fall, Office/Clerical Rising

Companies using industrial contingent workers continue to see their costs decline, while companies using office/clerical staffing services are seeing rising costs, according to the data released this week by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Light and heavy industry temporary staffing began indicating year-over-year decreases in the price of industrial staffing starting in March with the Producer Price Index posting year-over-year decreases every month through September, according to the latest data released the week by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

However, the story is different for office/clerical temporary staffing. The Producer Price Index for office and clerical temporary help services has trended toward higher year-over-year increases since June.

Producer price indexes track the change in price received by service producers over time. The change in price is measured from the perspective of the seller, in this case staffing firms.
