Staffing Usage Rises in Canada, Pace Slows

As part of our coverage of the Canadian staffing market, the Canadian Staffing Index was 106 in January, up 2 percent from the level of 104 in January of the prior year. This index is based upon reported billed hours for temporary staffing from a survey of leading staffing firms. The index value of 100 corresponds to the size of the industry in July 2008, the beginning of the reference period. However, January's reading represents a continued trend of decelerating year-over-year growth in volume from the strong double-digit growth seen in the first three quarters of 2012. This index is more useful for year-over-year comparisons, than for month-over-month, as it does not adjust for seasonality.
