In our 2013 Contingent Buyer Survey for North America, we asked respondents whether they currently use a vendor management system (VMS) in their contingent workforce program. We asked the same question regarding the use of a managed service provider (MSP). As we define it, an MSP manages a company’s contingent workforce program whereas a VMS is simply the technology used to manage the program. For 2013, based on a three-year moving average, 66 percent of respondents noted they use a VMS and 60 percent noted they use an MSP. While the percent of respondents noting the use of VMS and MSP has plateaued over the last few years, the amount of spend in the market continues to grow, even in the U.S., as the average amount of spend per client increases.
