UK – Prospective employers could lose candidates if they delay

When the economy is showing an upward trend, recruitment businesses experience increased demand to make placements, according to the Association of Recruitment consultancies (ARC). However, they have warned employers that increased demand may not necessarily result in securing the best candidate if their employment process takes too long.

Adrian Marlow, Chairman of ARC, commented: “[The increased demand] is very good news for the economy, employment figures, and recruitment consultancies, who are working hard to fill the positions and drive the placements. However, even though many job opportunities are becoming available and there are plenty of candidates to fill them, this does not mean it is all plain sailing for hirers.”

“Our enquiries have established that there is serious competition for the best candidates, and hirers who delay in making a decision to employ could lose out if they delay too long. Candidates do not simply target one hirer for employment, and the best ones are being snapped up. Employers should therefore be encouraged to act swiftly.”

“Whilst many online sources like job boards and social media appear to offer a simple route to employment, an experienced recruitment consultancy undoubtedly offers a more secure, personalised and speedier route for both employer and candidate. With the current competition amongst hirers, it will be traditional recruitment methods that will have the advantage of cutting out delays and selecting the right candidate,” Mr Marlowe advised.
