The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has appointed a new chairman to its engineering and technical sector group. Simon Conington, director at BPS world, was appointed at the beginning of the year.
The engineering and technical sector currently contributes an estimated £900 billion a year to the UK economy, according to the REC. But the sector is facing challenges as skills shortages have afflicted the UK labour market.
“I am excited to be contributing to this thriving sector. One of the key items on my agenda is to help develop the next generation of talent to meet the known skills shortage,” said Mr Conington.
REC director of policy, Tom Hadley, said that the engineering and technical sector was a “crucial” sector group. “Specialist agencies are playing a pivotal role in helping clients access the right talent and are also feeding in to the debate on building future talent pipelines,” he added.
The REC is the professional body for the recruitment industry and represents 3,776 corporate members in the UK.
