UK – NRL buys oil & gas rival

12 June 2013

Privately owned recruiter NRL has acquired specialist oil & gas staffing company Petrolic Consultants in a move to grow business operations both at home and abroad. The acquisition takes the combined group turnover to £120 million.

Petrolic, founded in 1983, specialises in the technical sectors and has offices in the UK and Egypt. Andrew Redmayne, Chairman of NRL, said the acquisition is part of the firm’s strategic national and international growth plans.

“We look forward to combining NRL’s expertise in the technical sector with Petrolic’s specialist oil & gas experience, to offer all our clients an unrivalled recruitment service experience,” he said.

The announcement comes less than a month after NRL Managing Director Mike Barber told Merger Market Magazine of the company’s plans to acquire UK-based rivals with foreign operations to bolster its global offering.

He said the focus was on companies with existing relationships with oil & gas majors, or engineering and project management companies. He also revealed that NRL was following up leads in Peru following a recent visit to the country.

Aside from staffing solutions for the rail, construction, utilities, M&E services, oil & gas and nuclear markets, NRL also serves the nuclear, rail and utilities sectors with full managed service offerings. Headquartered in Dovenby, Cumbria, the firm has eleven UK offices. Its most recent set of financial results for the year ended December 2012 showed it recorded sales of £87.9 million, a +21% increase from 2011.
