Last month, the UK job market saw record growth with new job opportunities jumping by +11% year-on-year, according to the latest Reed Job Index. Vacancies rose across many sectors and regions, pointing to robust performance of the labour market.
Martin Warnes, managing director of reed.co.uk, said that recruitment during spring will remain busy and recruiters can enter the season with some optimism. But, he said, “there will be setbacks on the road to recovery and economic growth is proving to be slow.”
Hiring activity remained particularly high in the charity and voluntary, social care and education sectors, each recording sharp increases of +66%, +45% and +41% respectively.
The West Midlands proved to be the best performing regions with vacancies rising +25.6% when compared to a year ago. This was followed by North East England (+20.0%), East Midlands (+19.1%), North West England (+18.4%) and Yorkshire and Humberside. In London, new opportunities rose +10% year on year.
The Reed Job Index is compiled by job site reed.co.uk, analysing job ads from over 10,000 recruiters throughout the UK. Read the whole report here.
