UK – Extension of GLA unlikely to win parliamentary support

27 June 2013

A Private Member’s Bill has been submitted by Andy Sawford to Parliament 24 June 2013 proposing that the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA) be rolled out across all recruitment sectors. The premise of the Bill would enable the GLA to regulate employment agencies in all sectors.

Mr Sawford is a member of the Labour Party and has been the Member of Parliament for Corby since a 2012 by-election.

The Bill is tabled to have second reading on 24 January 2014. However, given its position in the legislative calendar, and the controversial nature of the Bill, it is thought highly unlikely that it will get beyond a second reading.
