Switzerland — Unemployment falls to 4.4% in February 2010

According to the latest data published today by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), there were 173,000 unemployed individuals registered with the local job centres (RAV) at the end of February 2010, which equates to an unemployment rate of 4.4%.

The unemployment rate was down from 4.5% in January 2010. Compared to February 2009, unemployment was up by 40,957 individuals or +30.7%.

Youth unemployment (15 to 24 year olds) fell by -3.7% to 28,874 individuals. Compared to February 2009, however, youth unemployment was up by 30.9%.

The number of job offers advertised by the Swiss job centres was up by 2,267 to 14,795 by the end of February 2010.
