Switzerland — Unemployment at 12 year high but low in a European context

The latest unemployment figures published today by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) reveal that seasonally adjusted unemployment was up at 4.2% in December 2009, which is the highest percentage since March 1998.

Unadjusted unemployment rose to 4.4% from 4.2% in November 2009.

 
The total number of unemployed was up by 8,790 to 172,740. The number of vacancies was down by 2,112 to 10,824.
