Switzerland – Temporary recruitment falls again

18 September 2013

Temporary recruitment in Switzerland slowed again during August 2013, compared with a year ago, temporary employment has fallen by -6.4%. The difficult climate at the beginning of the year has continued to hamper the recruitment industry.

The slowdown is as a result of a subdued construction sector and a hesitant export industry, according to the Swiss Federation of Staffing Companies (Swiss Staffing). Since the start of the year, temporary employment has fallen by -1.9%.

Unemployment has remained stagnant with a slight upward trend. Looking forward, the temporary staffing industry expects a small negative growth for the whole year.

For the longer term, economists from various institutes expect a revival of the economy, including increased investment and exports. This is expected to result in a revival of the temporary employment industry in the medium term.
