The latest figures released by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), show that the employment situation in the country shows a slight improvement but is still noticeably negative.
The so-called KOF employment index reached -7.2 points in October 2009. This is an improvement on July 2009 when the index was at -9.5 points. The KOF index, which predicts labour market developments for the next three and six months, therefore expects further job losses in Switzerland but at a reduced rate.
In industry and distribution, the labour market has recovered but the index remains still negative. In the construction industry and the banking and insurance sectors the situation continues to worsen. Retail and hospitality show no changes.
