The Swiss labour market weakened “considerably” in the three months to December 2012, according to new research from Adecco. Demand for staff declined across most regions, affecting in particular workers in the technical, construction and financial services industries.
All sectors saw a decline in staff demand during the fourth quarter of the year, but this is linked to a seasonal decrease seen towards the end of 2012. Adecco found that companies remained cautious in the period and slowed down hiring activity. Overall, the job market remained healthy and the recent findings do not indicate a “general” slowdown, Adecco said.
In the quarter, demand for skilled workers dropped across all sectors, especially impacting IT (-22%), and finance (-21%) staff, as well as those working in industrial (-19%) and construction (-19%) jobs. The drop in demand was less profound in management, medical and hospitality roles.
