According to the latest 'Adecco Swiss Job Market Index' the Swiss job market has stabilised in Q4 2009 for the first time in 18 months with no further falls.
However, the index varies strongly by linguistic geography. In the Latin speaking part of Switzerland (French, Italian and Romansh) the quarterly index was up by 10% when compared to Q3 2009. In the German speaking part of the country the index was stagnant in Q4 compared to Q3 2009.
Year-on-year, the Q4 index was down by -27% in the German speaking part of Switzerland whilst it was down by only -9% in the Latin speaking part of the country.
Online job portals were the winners of the Swiss job market with an increase of 7% in Q4 2009 when compared to Q3 2009. Job offers on corporate websites were down by -1%. The real losers were job advertisements in the press with a decrease of -12%.
Adecco figures from 2003 reveal that the job offer share of the press has fallen from 40% in 2003 to 10% in Q4 2009. During the same period the job offer share of job portals has increased from 15% to 38%.
