Sweden — Unemployment at 9.3% in Q1 2010

The latest Labour Force Survey published today by Statistics Sweden (SCB) shows that in the first quarter of 2010 the unemployment rate reached 9.3%*, a rise of +1.5 percentage points compared to the same quarter last year.

Unemployment was 9.6% among men and 9% among women. The number of persons not at work due to sickness decreased by -62,000 or -13.9% to 386,000.


In total, 56.8% of the population was at work during Q1 2010. The proportion of men at work increased by +0.9 percentage points to 60.5%. The corresponding figure among women was 53% (no significant change).

*Total population aged between 15-74 amounted to 7 million persons during the first quarter of 2010.
