Spain — Unemployment expected to rise to 4.5 million

The latest labour Euro Index (Euroindice) published by IESE Business School on behalf of Adecco Spain reveals that youth unemployment (under 25 year olds) in Spain in the third quarter of 2009 had reached 38.6% whilst unemployment for the over 25 year olds was 15.6%. These are the highest unemployment figures in the last 13 and 12 years respectively.

Youth unemployment is expected to rise to 40.1% by March 2010 whilst unemployment for the over 25 year olds is expected to reach 17.3%.

Unemployment in the first quarter of 2010 is expected to rise by the lowest increase in two years but will reach a historic height of 4.5 million.
