Spain — Government allows temporary employment agencies onto national job board

15 February 2010

The Public State Service for Employment (Servicio Publico de Empleo Estatal) has opened its official job portal www.redtrabaja.es to temporary employment agencies Start People (part of USG People) and Manpower in order to reduce unemployment in the country.

Manpower currently offers 50 jobs for tele-operators in Barcelona on the site and the Ministry for Employment is negotiating with other temporary staffing agencies in order to let them have access to the official website, as well.

Maravillas Rojo, General Secretary for Employment, told El Periodico de Catalunya "we want to give more opportunities to the unemployed to find jobs and make the job search much easier for them."

The government will, as a second step, give temporary employment agencies the right to also find permanent jobs for their candidates, which they are currently legally prevented from.

In the Catalonia region around Barcelona, the local government has gone a few steps further by signing contracts with 10 temporary staffing agencies. Joan Josep Berbel, Head of the Labour Office of Catalonia (SOC), confirmed that "the 10 temporary employment agencies SOC works with currently supply 56% of all jobs on Catalonia's job board www.feinaactiva.gencat.cat."
Manpower has also renewed its contract with the French official job centres 'Pole Emploi', which allows an automatic transfer of Manpower France jobs to www.pole-emploi.fr
