Russia — Staffing industry revives after the recession

06 October 2009

Business Daily 'Vedomosti' has interviewed staffing industry professionals on the latest developments in the temporary and permanent staffing sector.

Mikhail Zhukov, Director General of Headhunter Group said that job offers on his job portal hh.ru have increased by almost 10% from 51,000 to 56,000 in September 2009.

"September 2009 turned out to be more productive compared to August. The number of vacancies at Kelly Services has increased by 12% compared to August. At the same time the volume of job offers in September 2009 is half that of September 2008," Catherine Gorokhov, General Director of recruitment agency Kelly Services added.

Alexei Zakharov, President of recruitment firm SuperJob said, "according to our statistics the volume of job offers on our job portal on 1 October 2009 was down by 53.5% compared to 1 October 2008 in terms of volume and fell by 48.4% in terms of value during the same period."

The head of General Recruitment at Manpower Russia said, "the recruitment market has seen some recovery but it is too early to talk about stabilisation. In September 2009 we had 15% more job offers than in August but this is still much less than the number of job offers we had in 2008."

"According to our calculations, the volume of the [Russian] staffing industry in 2008 amounted to $450 million. In 2009 it decreased by 20% to 35%," Felix Kugel, Managing Director of Manpower Russia added.
