The staffing industry in Portugal is set to experience a decline this year and bleak prospects are to continue into 2013, a new report by market research firm DBK claims. The data shows that last year the Portuguese staffing industry had revenues of €895 million, a decline of -0.6% from a year before.
This year, things are set to get worse as unemployment has been on the rise and the economy has seen months of contraction. The sluggish economic environment has taken its toll on recruiters which have experienced pressure on margins.
The firm said that sales in the staffing industry in 2012 will decline by -7% to around €830 million. And a contraction of the staffing market is to continue into 2013 with DBK predicting a decrease of up to -4%.
Staffing Industry Analysts is more pessimistic in its outlook and expects the staffing market to post a -10% fall in revenue in 2012.
Most agency workers in Portugal are employed in the service sector.
