Portugal — Less temporary employees placed at higher revenues

21 October 2009

As the country recovers slowly from the recession the President of the Portuguese Association of Private Employers (APESPE), Marcelino Pena Costa, estimates that revenues of temporary employment agencies will be up in 2009 compared to the previous year, Portuguese daily Expresso reports.

Pena Costa said, "after a downturn of 20% in the first three months of 2009 the market started recovering in the second quarter. In the third quarter revenues were up by between 10% and 12%."

"The temporary employment sector is going for more highly qualified temporary staff. Since the number of number employees placed has gone down and revenues are up it can only be that way."
