Poland – Rogue agencies on increase

27 July 2012

The number of rogue agencies in Poland is on the increase due to the start of the summer and the high demand for seasonal workers, the federation of staffing firms (Polish HR Forum) warned this week.

The association said that these fake employment agencies mainly publish job offers on free jobsites and sometimes disguise themselves as well-known staffing firms or come up with a bogus name. These rogue agencies then attempt to charge jobseekers for temporary and permanent vacancies and primarily offer work abroad.

Rogue agencies can be identified by a number of factors as the only contact information they tend to provide are mobile phone numbers or email addresses. Alarm bells should ring if job offers online fail to provide a proper contact address. The association warned that employment agencies should be thoroughly checked to prevent illegal labour.

In Poland all employment agencies offering services in the country have to be registered as such and activities of staffing firms are strictly controlled by the National Labour Inspectorate.
