The latest data published today by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) shows that seasonally adjusted unemployment fell by -9,000 to 437,000 persons during the three months from February to April 2010. This is the first quarterly fall in unemployment since the Summer 2008.
During the period from February to April 2010 the average unemployment rate was 5.9%. This compares to an unemployment rate of 4.6% during the same period last year.
Over the last six months the average monthly increase in unemployment amounted to 6,000 persons. This compares to an average monthly increase in unemployment of 13,000 persons in the first six months of 2009.
