Netherlands - €3 million earmarked to train agency staff

13 February 2014

Low skilled workers will be able to improve their job prospects by accessing training and attaining certificates of experience (EVC), according to the Foundation of Training & Development for the Flex Industry (STOOF), following approval from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment, reports abu.nl.

The purpose of the initiative is to provide unskilled temporary workers with a career pathway and re-train workers for jobs in the technical sector, thereby increasing their chances of finding a sustainable job. It is expected that the programme will support 1,350 temporary workers who have worked a wide variety of jobs or had periods of unemployment.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment has approved the plans and provided €1.5 million in funding. The remaining €1.5 million will be sourced from within the staffing industry.

Lodewijk Asscher, Minister for Social Affairs and Employment commented: “It is important that temporary workers strengthen their positions through training. They have a better chance at a new job when their contract expires.”
