According to data published today by the Central Bureau for Statistics (CBS), turnover of temporary employment agencies in 2009 fell by -11% compared to 2008. Unlike in previous periods of recession, turnover fell very rapidly due to the vehemence of the economic downturn.
Larger staffing agencies were much more sensitive to the decline in the market. The decrease was also larger than in the previous recession of 2003.
The number of hours worked by temporary employees in 2009 was down by approximately -16%. The decline began in the third quarter of 2008.
