Luxembourg — Women drive employment rate up to 70.2%

According to research carried out among 8,000 households by the National Statistics Office of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg (STATEC), the employment rate of individuals aged between 20 and 64 years has risen from 67.5% in 2000 to 70.2% in 2009.

Employment among men has fallen from 80.8% in 2000 to 79% in 2009 whilst employment among women has risen from 53.8% to 61.3% during the same period.

 
Employment among people aged between 20 to 29 years was 63.4% in 2009 due to the fact that a number of people of this age group are still at university.

The highest employment levels were registered for the age group of 30 to 54 year olds, where the employment level was 81.4%. The age group of 55 to 64 year olds registered an employment rate of 37.6%.

7.4% of workers were freelancers in 2009. 34.8% of women worked part-time in 2009 compared to only 4.2% of men.

6% of workers were temporary employees in 2009.
