Outsourcing is becoming a growing trend in Japan’s life sciences sector, fuelling demand for professionals across the industry, according to a report by recruiter Hays Japan.
“Outsourcing is the major trend across Japan’s life sciences sector,” said Christine Wright, Hays Operations Director in Asia.
“We are seeing this across all aspects of the industry, from early stage clinical research to clinical trials, manufacturing processes, data management and sales. This has produced opportunities for companies that specialize in these areas and it will lead to increased vacancies in these companies.”
The report has found that clinical trials are increasing demand for clinical research associates. Due to a change in law, medical science liaisons are also needed, but Hays said there was a limited pool of qualified candidates.
“Next year will see a return to volume medical representatives’ recruitment. Some companies are scheduling recruitment drives for 2013, and employers are already telling us to prepare,” said Ms Wright.
Companies are also expanding into new areas and require candidates in medical device sales, while regulatory affairs candidates are in demand although there is also a short supply of staff in these professions.
