Italy - Wages up +1.8% y-o-y

Both the Hourly Wage Index and the Per Employee Index increased by +0.1% In June 2011 when compared with the previous month, according to the latest data published by the National Institute for Statistics (Istat).

Compared with June 2010 both the hourly wage index and the per employee index increased by +1.8%. During the period January to June 2011 both indices increased by +1.9% compared with the same period of the previous year.

The index of wages according to collective labour agreements measures the evolution of wages and salaries (per employee or per hour) determined by contractual provisions set by collective agreements; the indices are calculated with reference to the fixed employment structure of the base period
(December 2005).

At the end of June 2011 the coverage rate (share of national collective agreements in force for wage settlements) was 66.4% in terms of employees and 61.0% in terms of the total amount of wages.
